Following the emergence of new evidence during Yorgen Fenech's jury trial for the 2017 assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, the Momentum party has called for justice against anyone implicated by the proceedings.

The trial has highlighted disturbing connections between political figures, major businesses, organized crime, and Maltese state institutions, with witness testimony repeatedly mentioning former OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri, former economy minister Chris Cardona, and other Castille officials, Momentum said Monday.

Momentum raised serious concerns regarding allegations that confidential police investigation details were leaked to individuals involved in the plot, questioning the extent of state complicity and whether political connections offered protection.

Party leader Arnold Cassola emphasised that the core issue extends beyond Fenech to uncovering the wider network that enabled the murder, noting that Caruana Galizia had been investigating these exact relationships prior to her death.

Momentum also criticized both the Nationalist and Labour parties for their silence on the trial and systemic corruption, and called for investigations into a separate, unresolved 2015 plot against the journalist.

To combat institutional corruption, the party proposed several reforms, including an independent Anti-Corruption Commission, a special prosecutor, the criminalization of political favors, strict conflict-of-interest controls, and a public spending ledger, asserting that Malta owes the victim and the public complete transparency, truth, and accountability.
