The government's Tourism Zones Regeneration Agency (TZRA) has completed almost 10 kilometres of public space beautification works across 22 localities in Malta during the first seven months of the year, the Ministry for Local Government and Public Works said in a statement.

The programme included hundreds of interventions aimed at improving the quality, safety and accessibility of public spaces for both residents and visitors.

The announcement was made during a visit by Minister for Local Government and Public Works Alison Zerafa Civelli and TZRA Chief Executive Dennis Vella to Hubbard Garden in Cospicua, where they reviewed the agency's work carried out between January and July.

Zerafa Civelli said the projects reflect the government's commitment to investing in high-quality public spaces that enhance residents' quality of life while improving the visitor experience.

"When we invest in public spaces, we are investing directly in people's quality of life," the minister said. "Every repaired bench, every upgraded promenade and every intervention that makes the environment safer and more welcoming is an investment in our communities and Maltese and Gozitan families."

She added that the government will continue working with local councils and other public entities to extend similar improvements to more localities, with a focus on modern, accessible and sustainable public spaces.

Vella said the agency continues to carry out maintenance, beautification and regeneration projects in collaboration with local councils and other public bodies.

Between January and July, the agency installed or repaired around 500 benches, 30 lighting poles, 100 road signs and 100 planters, in addition to carrying out works on bollards and litter bins.

Beautification works were also completed on 9,685 metres of walls and bench bases, while 2,524 metres of railings in public spaces were restored or repaired.

The agency also assembled and dismantled around 800 market stalls used during social and cultural events held in 38 localities across Malta and Gozo.

During the same period, the agency worked alongside the Malta Tourism Authority to install beach infrastructure, including showers, signage and waste containers.

The ministry said the agency has continued to adopt sustainable practices by repairing and reusing existing assets, such as benches, wherever possible instead of replacing them with new ones.
