An 87-year-old man from St Paul's Bay suffered serious injuries after being involved in a traffic accident in the locality on Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred at around 1:30pm in Triq San Ġlormu, St Paul's Bay.

According to initial police investigations, the elderly man was struck by a Ford Transit being driven by a 40-year-old man from Rabat, Gozo.

A medical team provided assistance at the scene before the injured man was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. He was later certified as having sustained serious injuries.

Duty Magistrate Dr Renata Farrugia LL.D. was informed of the case and opened a magisterial inquiry.

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
