Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield said Wednesday the police will be provided with whatever resources, equipment and foreign assistance they require for any further investigations into the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

Bedingfield was speaking to journalists after being asked whether he had spoken to or met Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà following the verdict in Yorgen Fenech's trial, and what steps would now be taken.

He said he had just met Gafà at the conference and had spoken to him, but stressed that he does not discuss ongoing investigations with the police.

"I do not discuss investigations with the police. I am not responsible for police investigations; I am politically responsible for the police," he said.

Asked how he would ensure that the police had the necessary resources to pursue any further lines of investigation, Bedingfield said any request made by the force would be met.

"Do you want me to interfere, or do you want me to let them work? You have to decide," he said.

Bedingfield said he could not be expected to refrain from interfering in investigations while simultaneously monitoring the police's progress by repeatedly seeking updates.

"Either we let them work or I keep chasing them," he said.

Asked specifically whether foreign assistance would also be made available should the police request it, the minister replied: "Whatever the police ask me for, I am ready to give them."
