€10,000 in food products to support school lunches for children facing food insecurity

Lidl Malta has renewed its partnership with the St Jeanne Antide Foundation for the 2026/2027 scholastic year, extending its support for the NGO's Nourishing Young Minds initiative for a third consecutive year.

The programme provides families experiencing financial difficulties with fresh and nutritious ingredients to prepare healthy school lunches for their children.

During the 2025/2026 scholastic year, Lidl Malta donated almost €10,000 worth of groceries, providing ingredients for nearly 6,000 school lunches and supporting around 40 children and their families.

Under the renewed partnership, Lidl Malta will continue donating essential food products throughout the academic year. The initiative is designed not only to address food insecurity among schoolchildren, but also to help parents and caregivers prepare their children's lunches themselves, preserving their role and dignity while easing some of the financial pressures faced by low-income households.

Lidl Malta director Owen Micallef said the company wanted to ensure that a nutritious lunch would not become a privilege, adding that the retailer was proud to continue supporting families in the community.

St Jeanne Antide Foundation executive director Melanie Piscopo said the initiative went beyond simply providing food, aiming to ensure that financial hardship did not prevent parents from preparing nutritious lunches for their children.

She said Lidl Malta's continued support for a third scholastic year provided the foundation with the consistency needed to assist families throughout the school year.

The foundation said access to adequate nutrition can help children focus on their studies and participate fully in school, regardless of their socio-economic circumstances.
