Microsoft is introducing a new Copilot experience designed to change how people work with AI, bringing together AI assistance, delegated tasks and application creation in one place.
This new Copilot experience is in line with Microsoft's vision for the next era of work is therefore not simply that everyone will use AI but that everyone will increasingly be able to create with AI, turning ideas and business needs into working solutions directly within the flow of their work.
The new Copilot combines Chat, Cowork, Autopilot and Code, while bringing Word, Excel and PowerPoint directly into the experience. Together, these capabilities mark a shift from simply asking AI for answers to delegating work to AI and building new tools with it.
Copilot Home becomes the new starting point for work with AI, bringing together Chat for interactive tasks and Cowork for work that can be delegated to AI. Word, Excel and PowerPoint are also integrated directly into Copilot, allowing employees to create and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations without constantly moving between applications.
The result is a Copilot experience designed not just to answer questions, but to become a place where work gets done.
The new Copilot also changes how employees can work with AI, from prompting it for assistance to delegating complete tasks. With Cowork, employees can assign complex tasks to Copilot and have AI work through them end-to-end.
Autopilot takes this further, acting as a proactive digital teammate that can continue working even when the employee is not actively engaged. This creates a new model for AI at work: people define the goal and retain control, while AI takes on more of the execution. Employees can then spend more time on creativity, judgment and decision-making.
The biggest shift comes with Code, which enables employees to create software without having to begin by writing code themselves. Employees can describe the app, dashboard, tracker or automation they need in everyday language and ask Copilot to build it.
Built on the same technology behind GitHub Copilot, Code brings software creation closer to the people who understand the business problem in the first place. A request that might previously have required a developer, a specification and a development cycle can now begin with a simple description of what an employee needs. That means employees can move from identifying a problem to creating a working tool for solving it using natural language as the starting point.
The new Copilot brings these capabilities together around a simple progression: ask, delegate, build. AI can answer a question. It can now take on a task. And it can help create the tools needed to accomplish that task.
