A Malta-registered Boeing 737 operated by Corendon Airlines landed safely in Nuremberg, Germany, after triggering an emergency alert while flying over Croatia on a flight from Corfu, Greece, which left Nuremberg airport temporarily closed, Sustainable Mobility Minister Chris Bonett said on Tuesday.

In a Facebook post, Bonett said the aircraft, registered as 9H-CXD, continued its planned route and landed in Nuremberg at around 10:16am, where German authorities were ready to carry out the necessary checks.

Investigations indicated that the emergency signal had been triggered by a malfunction in the aircraft's radio communication system, the minister said.

The airline confirmed that the safety of passengers and crew on board had not been compromised at any point during the incident.

"Safety in aviation always remains our priority," Bonett said in his statement.
