Park tal-Mitħna has breathed new life into an area that served as a quarry for many years and where approximately 20,000 cubic metres of construction waste had accumulated over time, the government said Saturday. The site has now been transformed into a 7,000-square-metre park for everyone to enjoy, complete with a dedicated dog park.
Located in Mqabba, on the border with Qrendi, the park was inaugurated during an event attended by residents, local organisations and representatives of neighbouring Local Councils.
Park tal-Mitħna was designed to provide visitors, particularly children, with a safe environment that brings them closer to nature. The park features a bug and bee hotel, a table tennis area, natural play areas for children, cycling paths and sanitary facilities.
The dedicated dog park is divided into two separate areas for smaller and larger dogs, allowing them to run and play in a safe and suitable environment.
These facilities provide families with different opportunities to spend quality time together outdoors, whether through play, physical activity or relaxation, the statement said.
Environmental improvements were central to the site's transformation. In place of the former construction waste, 300 trees and more than 3,200 shrubs have been planted. A reservoir has also been constructed to collect rainwater, which will be reused to irrigate the park.
