A 38-year-old Serbian man who was found with several types of drugs concealed inside his motorcycle following a traffic accident in Mosta has been sentenced to 12 months in prison and fined €3,000 after admitting to all charges.

Milos Miletic, pleaded guilty to nine charges before Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo on Thursday, reversing the not guilty plea he entered during his arraignment last month.

The charges included possession of cannabis, cannabis resin, cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, 2C-B and other psychoactive substances in circumstances indicating that the drugs were not intended for his personal use.

Miletic was also charged with driving without insurance and driving carelessly, negligently or dangerously in Mosta.

The case dates back to 29 September, when Miletic was involved in a motorcycle accident in Mosta that left him seriously injured.

Police investigations carried out following the accident led to the discovery of the drugs concealed inside a compartment of his motorcycle.

In determining the punishment, the court considered his clean criminal record and his relatively early guilty plea. The magistrate also noted that the offences carry a mandatory effective prison sentence.

Miletic was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment, with the time already spent in preventive custody to be deducted, and fined €3,000. He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months.

The magistrate also ordered the destruction of the seized drugs once the judgment becomes final and directed Miletic to pay the expenses of the court-appointed experts.

A copy of the judgment was also ordered to be forwarded to Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield should deportation be required.
