Michael Bucknell: The real Outsider Artist

Malta Independent Monday, 12 April 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The showcase features a group of 10 paintings by the Russian/English artist who has been steadily acquiring fame in Europe.

This young abstract expressionist has spent much of his life travelling and pursuing European Art, the influence of which has markedly affected his life and his outlook on the world.

Having had to deal with various problems – from incarceration on suspicion of terrorism, to hospitalisation for his artistic obsession – he resorted to the execution of art as a method of expression.

At first glance, his art is not classical, not traditional. But the beauty of his art is within that same childlike raw passion and emotion. The pieces on show are rife with sentiment, sometimes movingly so.

He deals with his thoughts and fears with an uninhibited recipe of paint, vigour and perception.

His bright and jarring pieces are filled with secrets.

To see his art, visit Misfits, Paceville, where the art showcase is being held for a month. For more information, visit www. chiaroscuroart.com.
