Vampires At Fort St Angelo

Malta Independent Saturday, 12 June 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

This will take place in the open air at Fort St Angelo in Vittoriosa between 17–20 June at 9pm. Friday’s performance will be by invitation only and will be given under the auspices of President Edward Fenech Adami.

Adapted and directed by Alan Cassar and Andy Catania, Dance of the Vampires will include a number of successful hits by singers and groups such as Bonnie Tyler, Evanescence, Meatloaf and Billy Idol.

Over 80 young people are involved as cast and crew, including a number of parents who have also helped out with the set, costumes and choreography. The lighting is by Nexos Lighting Technology while A-Sound will take care of the audio.

The story begins with Jean’s funeral. While everyone else is convinced that he’s dead, his wife Soleil knows the truth and asks him to change her into a vampire so that they can live together forever. Sarah witnesses this scene and is terrified by this evil. She and her sister pray for it to end, but end up almost being victims of the vampires themselves until Count Krolok, the head of the vampires, stops the attack. He falls in love with Sarah and puts her under his spell, promising her eternal life.

Sarah is found unconscious by her lover, Jim. Meanwhile, another attack takes place in a bar where the vampires change Sid, a convict, into a vampire so that they can continue to take over the city. Jim realises he cannot let this terror continue and decides to organise a rebellion against the vampires.

Dance of the Vampires is a story of good against evil, but who will win in the end?

Production is by the San Lawrenz committee for external festivities and the youth section in Vittoriosa (Zghazagh Palmizi). Tickets are available from Geraldu kiosk, Republic Street, Valletta, Mifsud Garage in Triq La Valette and Lawrence Ironmongery in Vittoriosa Square, or by telephoning 7900-0751, 9920-8015 or 2180-7535.

A minibus shuttle service will be available from the Freedom Monument in Vittoriosa to Fort St Angelo.
