The government revealed yesterday the amount of money which has been given to various non-governmental organisations in recent years.

Arka Foundation got Lm63,250 in 2004, Azzjoni Kattolika (SAS) Lm4,000, the Cana Movement Lm31,000, the Caring Organisations Fair Lm2,000, the Caritas New Hope Programme Lm150,000, the Centru Fidi u Gustizzja Lm6,000, the Dar Frate Francesco Lm6,000, the Dar Qalb ta' Gesu Lm30,600 and Daritama Lm5,000.

The Eden Foundation was given Lm37,567 for its community and inclusion programme and Lm1000 for rent, Fondazzjoni Nazareth received Lm17,000, while Fondazzjoni Wens was granted Lm5,000 for its independent living programme, Lm7,000 for the McNeil Project and Lm11,000 for the residential service.

The Foundation for Respite Care Services was granted Lm77,000, while the Ghaqda Persuni Newqsin mis-Smigh was given Lm5,000 and the Good Shepherd Sisters of Merhba Bik Hostel were given Lm24,000.

The Oasi Tertiary Prevention Programme was given Lm60,000, the Osanna Pia Salesian Youth Hostel Lm10,000 while the Razzett tal-Hbiberija received Lm5,000.

The Richmond Foundation was given Lm6,000 for its supported housing scheme, Lm20,000 for the Home Support Service and Lm69,000 for Villa Chelsea.

Finally, the Salesian Pastoral Youth Service was given Lm1,000, the Vincenzo Bugeja Foundation Lm25,000 and the YMCA shelter for the homeless Lm18,000.

The figures were provided by Social Solidarity Minister Dolores Cristina who also informed Franco Galea that from 2000 to 2004 the total amount of grants amounted to Lm3.2 million. All those who receive government grants are obliged to produce an evaluation report twice a year. They are also obliged to submit a copy of their audited reports, while the ministry can send in its inspectors at any time.
