An elderly couple were rudely awakened yesterday morning by three hooded people who broke into their home in Mithna Street, Siggiewi.

The police said they were tipped off that a robbery was in progress at around 12.40am.

The residents, an 82-year-old man and his 80-year-old wife, were asleep when the robbers broke in.

The police said the thieves made off with a substantial amount of cash and other items. The couple were taken to St Luke’s suffering from shock and minor injuries.

Duty magistrate Giovanni Grixti appointed court experts to help the inquiry.
