Another Cyclist drops out of Lifecycle Challenge

Malta Independent Monday, 7 August 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Cyclist Vicky Degaetano dropped out of the Travelex Lifecycle Challenge last Saturday due to severe pain in her knee.

Saturday was the day with the longest distance ever to be covered – a phenomenal 270km that took the team all the way from Grong to Korgen in Nordland.

Although the cyclists tried to joke about the ride, in reality many were worried about possible injuries that might cause them to drop out of the challenge.

Yesterday’s route included steep and undulating climbs and a 50km off-road course.

The weather was sunny and hot and the support teams made sure the cyclists were well hydrated and nourished, while providing psychological support all along.

The beautiful weather, together with the late nightfall, encouraged the cyclists not to lose hope in a ride that would possibly end as late as midnight for some of them.
