A Libyan man has been jailed for four years after he was found guilty of trafficking in heroin as well as heroin, cannabis and cocaine possession.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman jailed Khayris Abugdidi, 28, from Tripoli but who resides in Hamrun, for four years.

The court heard how, in January this year, the accused had purchased a total of around Lm2,000 worth of drugs which he was planning to sell. He was also caught in possession of objects related to drug trafficking such as weighing scales. Abugdidi was also found guilty of possessing and trafficking drugs within 100 metres from a school or a club frequented by youths.

Magistrate Hayman ordered Abugdidi to pay a Lm2,000 fine and also ordered that the time he spent in custody awaiting this case be reduced from the four-year jail term.

Police inspector Nezren Grixti prosecuted.
