A man was yesterday jailed for six months and fined Lm200 after he was found guilty of cannabis possession and of complicity in the cultivation of cannabis plants.
The court heard how eight cannabis plants were cultivated in a house in Siggiewi which was owned by a dentist. Martin Galea, 27, from Zebbug, was given the key to the house since he was carrying out construction work there. The court heard that Galea’s friend had asked the accused to give him the key to the house since he had cannabis seeds and needed to plant them somewhere.
Magistrate Lawrence Quintano ruled that Galea was guilty of complicity in the cultivation of the cannabis plants since he was responsible for the property where they were found and that he knew that the plants had been cultivated there. He also found him guilty of cannabis possession.
Martin Galea was jailed for six months and fined Lm200.
