The Nationalist Party accused the Labour Party (MLP) of defending its “scandalous trip” to Dubai, in which the MLP delegation also included contractors involved in commercial companies.

According to the PN statement, the fact that Labour leader Alfred Sant defended the Dubai delegation by saying that whoever criticises the MLP is puerile, does not lessen the severity of the scandal.

Labour candidate Joe Sammut also defended the MLP, the statement said, adding that in an article published in the General Workers’ Union newspaper l-orizzont yesterday, Mr Sammut defended the secretive delegation and attacked the Nationalist Party for speaking about the scandal.

According to Joe Sammut, the statement said, the PN is attacking the Labour delegation’s visit to Dubai because there were “four contractors who are stained by the original sin of being Labourites”. This is not the point, the PN said.

The statement said the MLP concealed the fact that four contractors went to Dubai together with the Labour delegation led by deputy leader Charles Mangion. In a press conference and statement issued by the Labour Party with regard to the Dubai visit, the contractors were never mentioned, the statement said, adding that the Labour Party’s silence confirms that what it did was scandalous.
