60 Second Interview - Mark Abela

Malta Independent Sunday, 10 December 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

For most of his working life, some 29 years, Mark worked in the field of radio broadcasting as a recording technician with the Libyan Broadcasting station. During this time he also worked in television as a sports journalist/ producer with Super One, producing a variety of sports programmes for eight years. After the Libyan station closed down, Mark worked for about a year as a team leader in a factory, managing 30 people.

He has always been an active sportsman, playing and coaching tennis, running the Marathon, taking part in the Triathlon and working out at the gym.

This year, at the age of 50, he decided to take the activity which he loves most, sports, and turn it into a career. He therefore returned to his textbooks, obtained two diplomas, one as a Personal Fitness Trainer and the other in Diet and Nutrition, and is now the official fitness trainer for the TV programme Kilò. He is also working with individual clients.

Meanwhile he is continuing his studies, first of all by following a foundation course in coaching at the University of Malta as well as a course which will allow him to become qualified as a youth fitness trainer, because what he would like most of all is to help children to be fit and healthy.

Mark is also a keen dancer and has taken part in various Yada dance productions. He also enjoys working as an extra in different films shot in Malta.
