Heritage Malta is continuing its series of Heritage trails with a treat for nature lovers and ecology enthusiasts. The ‘Discovering our Natural Treasures Heritage Trail’ will take place on Sunday, 15 April between 2 and 5.30pm.

Heritage Malta’s curator for natural history, John J. Borg will focus on the various natural aspects of the south-west coast of Malta. Starting from Dingli Cliffs, the geological strata that form the Maltese Islands together with the different types of fossilised fauna found embedded in these rocks will be highlighted. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the different floral aspects of the garigue and cliff habitats. The historical and ecological importance of Filfla will also be highlighted.

During the trail, the ecological importance of Buskett Gardens and its historical value will be discussed. Particular attention will be given to the different types of trees and fauna that inhabit Buskett.

Included in the trail is a visit to the National Museum of Natural History where highlights from the museum’s display area will be visited.

Tickets for the Heritage Trail cost Lm5 and can be obtained from Heritage Malta’s head office in Merchants Street, Valletta (tel: 2295 4312). Pre-booking is essential as places are limited.
