HSBC has presented the third Lm4,000 instalment of its three-year Lm12,000 commitment to Scoops. The sponsorship was presented to Outlook Coop by the Bank’s Head of Personal Financial Services, Godfrey Swain, amid much bustle, fun, and colourful stands at the annual Scoops Fair held in Valletta. The fair attracted passing trade, and showcased young talents and skills.

Keen Scoop members exhibited an assortment of products at the fair. The event was also a great opportunity for students to practise their sales and social skills. Throughout the scholastic year, students and educators participating in the Scoops Project explored themes related to operating a business based on the cooperative model.

Scoops is an educational project owned by the Cooperatives Board. The project offers secondary school students the opportunity to discover how to run their own business based on the cooperative model. The project is taken up by schools on a voluntary basis and introduces students aged 12 to 15 years to the world of employment and cooperative principles.

“It is heartening to see so many young people participate in educational business activities, when there is so much need for the promotion of enterprise and innovation in the Maltese market” said Godfrey Swain, Head of Personal Financial Services, HSBC Malta. “It is for all these reasons that HSBC contributes some Lm40,000 a year in financial support to student organisations, specifically for education in business.”
