Culvert Damaged… again

Malta Independent Saturday, 2 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

Part of a water culvert lying beneath the Regional Road bridge has been uncovered, after the tarmac surrounding the grids was slowly eaten away, allowing one of the grids to move out of place.

A worker in the area said he had reported the situation to the local council several times. Now that a grid moved out of place and was nowhere to be found, the worker attempted to caution motorists by placing a cardboard box in part of the big hole. He was also sensible enough to place an orange plastic cone, in the hope of avoiding a traffic accident.

The Malta Independent already reported the situation with regard to the disintegrating tarmac, in the Odds & Ends section last Monday. It would be pertinent to ask why nothing was done before the grid moved out of place. Now that it has, why is it that the authorities did absolutely nothing about it throughout yesterday, when the grid went missing?

It is not the first time that this has happened… and it is not the first time either that it has taken weeks for action to be taken… in spite of the dangerous situation for motorists.
