Malta Independent Saturday, 2 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

An Mgarr elderly woman was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and jewellery items by three hooded men who shoved her back into her home when she emerged to take out her garbage bag yesterday morning.

Police sources said that the 84-year-old woman went out of her house at about 8.15am to deposit the garbage bag on the pavement. Three hooded men were waiting for her just outside and when the woman opened the door, they pushed her back inside.

A sheet was wrapped around the woman to disable her and, while one of the robbers stayed with her, the other two went upstairs from where they lifted cash and valuables, the sources said. The three then ran off.

The woman had to be treated for shock when she was found some time later.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna appointed several experts to help him draw up a report.
