Fixed-term Contracts

Malta Independent Saturday, 2 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

Helena Dalli, MLP spokesperson for women and the public service, accused the government of remaining insensitive to questions being raised by the issue of Legal Notice 51 relating to fixed-term contracts, which affected some employees in the public service.

She asked how many public servants would be affected when the notice came into effect, and how the rest of the service would be affected.

Ms Dalli said the government had avoided answering the questions being made to determine that there would be no abuses. What measures were being taken so that those responsible for renewing or ending contracts would be held accountable if the terms of a contract were not observed, she asked. Was anything being done to ensure that the process would be applied justly?
