Man Claims minister did not say the whole truth

Malta Independent Saturday, 2 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The man who Competitiveness and Communications Minister Censu Galea revealed as the provider of the information and recordings which are being used by the Malta Labour Party over alleged irregularities at the Malta Transport Authority in 2001 yesterday said that the minister did not say the whole truth in his regard.

In a judicial protest filed in the First Hall of the Civil Court against Minister Galea, Angelo Debono from St Paul’s Bay, said he was holding Mr Galea responsible for the damage he is sustaining or may sustain in the future as a result the minister’s “irresponsible behaviour”.

Mr Galea mentioned Mr Debono as the person who provided the MLP with the information and recordings taken during meetings in 2001 in which alleged irregularities at the Malta Transport Authority (ADT) were discussed. The minister had said that Mr Debono, a former ADT officer, appeared before the authority’s disciplinary board charged with a series of offences.

In his judicial protest, Mr Debono explained that while it was true that he had appeared before the ADT’s disciplinary board in October 2003, the minister did not mention that he (Mr Debono) had appealed the board’s decision and won the appeal in April 2005. He added that subsequently, he filed a court case against the ADT in which he sued them for damages. This case is still sub judice.

Mr Debono said Mr Galea omitted the fact that he had won the appeal he filed against the decision taken by the ADT’s disciplinary board and held the minister responsible for damages.

Dr Anglu Farrugia signed the writ.
