Supporting World Environment Day Programme

Malta Independent Sunday, 10 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

Bank of Valletta rallied its support towards the Environmental Week that started on 4 June and ends today.

A number of activities were organised to coincide with the World Environment Day, an annual event that was commemorated on Tuesday. Originally established by the United Nations in 1972, it aims at raising worldwide awareness about the environment, and our responsibility to take care of it, both for our sake and that of our children.

Following its successful participation in the Earth Garden last month, Bank of Valletta has supported a number of activities held during Environmental Week.

BOV has sponsored an art exhibition ‘Trees and the Environment’, organised by the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment, in aid of the 34U Campaign. Featuring works of 20 local artists, the exhibition was launched on Friday at the St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta.

A major initiative that BOV took on Thursday was a clean up of the seabed. A team of BOV divers and other employees and divers from the Calypso Sub Aqua Club worked together to clean the seabed of one of Malta’s most popular beaches in the Sliema area. This environment friendly operation was co-ordinated by the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment.

Bank of Valletta is also taking part in the Environment Festival that is being held at the Independence Gardens in Sliema this weekend, which will bring Environmental Week to a close.s
