UHM At loggerheads with PSC

Malta Independent Friday, 31 August 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Union Haddiema Maghqudin has strongly objected to the Public Service Commission over the way the posts of Director of Department falling under the Education Ministry are being filled.

The call for applications for these posts was published in the Government Gazette.

The union said it had already objected with the Prime Minister and the Education Minister about the way these positions were being filled. The main bone of contention was the fact that the posts are also open to people who are not in the public service.

The UHM brought to the attention of the PSC that the applications in question go against article 92(4) of the Constitution where it is laid down that the filling of such posts must be decided by a senior public official. The union also complained that it was not consulted on the issue.
