The Labour Party’s IT spokesman, Leo Brincat, said last week’s announcement by a leading Maltese company that it would be investing millions to provide a Malta-Italy submarine cable to provide more bandwidth in Malta, was a step in the right direction and in line with the Labour Party’s suggestions made 18 months ago.
This proved how forward looking the Labour Party’s vision was, he added.
He pointed out that in its vision statement 18 months ago, described by others as an empty vision devoid of ideas, the Labour Party had made three main points:
That it would promote the concept of a Mediterranean hub in informatics through a nucleus of regional and international business operations, which could succeed only if there was an efficient and versatile infrastructure
To connect Malta with the rest of the world, by not continuing to rely on only two fibre optic links for international connectivity, but by encouraging international bandwidth improvement, which would allow more intensive initiatives in informatics
Labour would also implement what it called ‘The Building Blocks of ICT’, together with the main stakeholders through a national road map, which would truly make Malta an information society with an effective network.
