PN Guarantees that health services will remain free

The Nationalist Party yesterday assured the people that health services will remain free of charge.

In a statement to answer Opposition Leader Alfred Sant’s speech during the MLP’s mass meeting in Cottonera, the PN said that it was a government led by Dr Sant that started to introduce payments for health services.

As prime minister, Dr Sant had started to impose fees on medicines that were previously free of charge. These taxes were then removed by the Nationalist government the day after it won the 1998 election.

A Nationalist government was never a miser when it came to health services and guarantees that all such services will remain free of charge. This guarantee could be made only by the Nationalist Party. “Alfred Sant cannot give this guarantee because when he was prime minister, he introduced payments for health services.”

Shadow Finance Minister Charles Mangion has already declared that health services will be reduced under a Labour government, the PN said.

The MLP agenda is becoming evident – the MLP will reduce health services, services for the elderly, housing schemes and projects, the PN said.

In a separate statement, the government categorically denied that it is planning to introduce payment for health services. The government committed itself to continue offering the best health services free of charge. The Nationalist Party yesterday assured the people that health services will remain free of charge.
