AD Submits first few nominations

Malta Independent Tuesday, 12 February 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 17 years ago

A total of nine candidates will be contesting the elections for Alternattiva Demokratika (AD), four of whom presented their nominations yesterday in Valletta. Nevertheless, AD will have a candidate contesting in every district.

“AD is presenting its first four nominations today, and our electoral promise is transparency and a proper freedom of information act, as well as a Whistleblower Act in order to give immunity to those who have been accomplices in corruption, as well as a law tackling the crucial point of financing the political parties,” said AD’s chairman Harry Vassallo.

“We are disappointed that this election will, yet again, produce a new government under the heavy cloak of shrouded finances. If Gonzi’s party was truly concerned about unregulated public finance they should have introduced the relevant law as soon as they were elected, and not include it in their policies now,” added Dr Vassallo.

The candidates who have submitted their nominations so far on behalf of AD are Harry Vassallo for the eighth district – Birkirkara, Lija, part of St Venera, and Iklin, and the 10th district – Gzira, Pembroke, St Julian’s, Sliema, Carmelo Caccopardo for the third district – Zejtun, Fgura and Marsascala and the 11th district – Mdina, Attard, Balzan and Mosta, Mr Patrick Attard for the fifth district – Birzebbuga, Kirkop, Marsaxlokk and the 12th district – Mellieha, Naxxar, St Paul’s Bay, and Mr Ralph Cassar for the seventh District – Zebbug, Dingli, Mgarr, Mtarfa and Rabat and the 11th district – Mdina, Attard, Balzan and Mosta.
