Another Solo exhibition by Barbara O’Brien

Malta Independent Wednesday, 2 April 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Following the success of her first solo art exhibition, held last October, Barbara O’Brien is presenting another solo exhibition entitled “Pieces of Me”.

Once again, as is typical of this artist, her exhibition is a very personal journey embedded in deep emotions. To this painter every brush stroke represents a heartbeat, a profound and intense experience.

Each piece of this collection communicates a feeling, a different emotion and is part of the passage which is life. Although the artist still makes references to nature and the elements she uses these to convey strong and powerful messages, however, this exhibition is more direct and striking in character.

The use of different colours and textures remains the signature style of the artist, as she continues in her discovery of different combinations while marrying the two in a very unique way.

Acrylic paint is the chosen medium for the artist’s abstract works.

The vast majority of the paintings are done on canvas and kept to a square shape, even though the size may vary.

The idea of the square is no coincidence, here also lies a deeper meaning.

The message may be one representing conformity or a sense of limitation, on the other hand, it is also a reflection of the contrast between the freedom which the paintings evoke, the same freedom which the artist finds in her works, and that of the constraints of society.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 5 April to 30 April at the Malta Hilton. The event has been sponsored by Marsovin.Following the success of her first solo art exhibition, held last October, Barbara O’Brien is presenting another solo exhibition entitled “Pieces of Me”.
