A Luqa man was yesterday given a six-month jail term and a e465 fine after being found guilty of ecstasy possession and trafficking.

Marlon Bugeja, 28, was found guilty of being in possession of and trafficking 25 ecstasy pills on 5 June 2006 at a party held in Paradise Bay.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Lawrence Quintano did not believe the accused’s version of events, in which he claimed that he had bought the pills to share with his friends.

The court said all evidence pointed to the fact that the accused was peddling drugs to others at the party. He jailed the accused for six months, with time spent in preventive custody to be deducted from total time served. He was also fined e465.
