A young man is in hospital fighting for his life after a traffic accident in Triq Mikelang Vassallo, Gzira, which happened at around 3am yesterday when the 19-year-old driver of a car crashed on losing control.

The police said the driver of the Ford Fiesta, which crashed into an electricity pole and overturned, left the car unassisted but his passenger had to be taken out by staff of the Department for Civil Protection.

Both were taken to hospital where the passenger was certified to be suffering grave injuries and in danger of dying.

Duty magistrate Doreen Clarke was informed.
