A 32-year-old man was remanded in custody yesterday after pleading not guilty to trafficking heroin.

Tony Armando Zahra, from Mosta, was arrested on Sunday morning along with five other men after the police raided his house and found him in possession of 4.6 grammes of heroin and other drug related paraphernalia, suggesting that the drugs were to be dealt to third parties.

Before magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna, Zahra pleaded not guilty also to possessing the drug in circumstances denoting it was not for his personal use and relapsing.

He was denied bail and remanded in custody on account of previous breach of bail conditions as well as ongoing police investigation. The court also ordered Zahra’s assets to be frozen.

Police Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted while Dr Anthony Cutajar was legal aid to the accused.
