Sliema Buildings classified as dangerous: Health clinic moved, police station stays

Malta Independent Wednesday, 14 May 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The buildings housing the Sliema police station and the Sliema health clinic have been classified as dangerous and unsafe, The Malta Independent has learnt.

But, although the clinic was moved elsewhere last month, the police station is still there.

Sources told this newspaper that the two buildings have been classified as unsafe and dangerous, and that urgent repairs need to be made to the structures.

The two buildings are situated in Rudolph Street, Sliema.

This newspaper has learnt that an architect was commissioned to inspect the police station building and sent an email to the police commissioner informing him that works need to be carried out urgently as the building is not safe.

In fact, on 29 April, the Department of Information issued a statement saying that the health services offered in the Sliema health clinic have been permanently transferred to the premises of the Sliema local council in Depiro Street.

Sources from the health ministry said the transfer of the Sliema health clinic to its new premises at the Sliema local council is permanent.
