Repubblika submits official letter to Court requesting AG to provide full Vitals inquiry report

NGO Repubblika said Monday that it has submitted an official letter to the Court, requesting that the Attorney General provides it with a full copy of Vitals magisterial inquiry report.

The organisation said that the letter has been submitted through lawyer Jason Azzopardi, insisting that the AG forwards a full copy of the report of this inquiry.

Repubblika said that in recent days, immediately upon learning that the magisterial inquiry into the Vitals case had been concluded and passed on to the AG, the NGO had made a written request to the AG for a copy.

“After receiving no response, we repeated the request. We did not even receive an acknowledgment,” it said.

The NGO reminded that this inquiry was initiated at the request of Repubblika in 2019, and noted that the Prime Minister, as well as the Minister of Justice, were given a copy.

“This act goes against the provisions of the Constitution, and the European Convention on Human Rights,” Repubblika said, adding that it will take further steps if its requests continue to be ignored.

In the letter, Repubblika said that the AG is not using her discretion in a just way, and is going against its rights. The letter requested for the immediate release of a copy of the inquiry, as well as witness statements and the full documents.

The letter concluded that Repubblika reserves the right to proceed with ulterior actions against the AG and the State Advocate should it fail to receive a copy, including for the decision not to give access to be revised in Court according to law.

Last week, it became publicly known that the magisterial inquiry into the Vitals’ case was concluded and had been passed on to the AG a week before. Repubblika, as well as the PN, have said that government already has access to the report, and are withholding it for political reasons ahead of the upcoming June elections.
