Malta Independent Monday, 3 November 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

An exhibition of historical documents as well as photographs of the coastal defences of Gozo, which are kept at the National Archives in Gozo, is being held within the same buildings in Gozo as part of the activities organised for Archives Awareness Week.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Anthony Borg, Head of Secretariat at the Ministry for Gozo. On behalf of the Minister for Gozo, Mr Borg presented a set of architectural plans of historical sites, drafted by employees at the ministry’s Department for Projects and Development.

National Archivist Charles Farrugia also addressed those present for the inauguration. He gave a brief overview of the functions of the National Archives in Malta and Gozo and presented two original documents related with the work of the Gozo Civic Council.

Mgr Joseph Bezzina dwelt on the significance of the exhibition and the historical importance carried by the exhibited documents of the coastal fortifications of Gozo.

A catalogue, sponsored by HSBC Bank (Malta) plc, giving detailed information about the exhibited photographs and documents, was especially published for the occasion.
