60 Second Interview - Jes Sciberras

Jes Sciberras is a choreographer and dance teacher. He has worked for various Arts companies and institutes. He started his training with Yada Dance Co. and later he joined The Tanja Bayona Princess Poutatine Academy of Ballet. In 1998-99 with a grant from the Italian Cultural Institute, he went to Italy to further his studies in contemporary dance, Jazz, Ballet and History of Dance. In 2005 Jes was asked several times to choreograph for events both locally and abroad. He has also choreographed for various singers including Ira Losco, Olivia Lewis, Georgina, Karen Polidano and Romina. He also choreographed the Maltese song Vertigo for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in which he also performed in Helsinki.

Jes is also involved in television. Since 1996 until recently he presented a daily fitness workout and last year he was the main presenter of the programme Homes on One TV. Jes recently directed the dancing, live music and singing for Cole Porter on The Steps in collaboration with The Drop-Out Band and The Dance Workshop, which was held in Valletta for Notte Bianca 2008.

He is currently working on the choreography of Masquerade’s pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk. This is his first experience as a choreographer for a panto, and he is happy to be working with such a talented and energetic team of performers.

What would you like to be doing in

10 years’ time?

Presenting my own TV entertainment programme.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Being peaceful with myself.

What is your favourite occupation?

Banking and TV presenting even though I’m at the very beginning of this new venture.

Significant other?

My mum.

What is your greatest fear?

Not being able to take care of myself when I am old.

What is it that you most value in your friends?

Respect, honesty and being there when I need them.

How would you like to die?

In my sleep with no pain.

What is your greatest extravagance?

A summer holiday by the beach.

What is your greatest regret?

Not continuing my studies to become a PE teacher.

What is your most treasured possession?

My house.

Which talent would you most like to have apart from the ones you already have?

If I had more time on my hands it would have to be Interior Design.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Lack of self-respect.

Where would you like to live?

Somewhere where summer is all year round, next to the beach… with the lover of my dreams!

What is your most marked characteristic?

Determination. Perfection. Respect.

Who are your heroes/heroines in real life?

My parents for making family values their priority. And if I had to choose two other persons they would be Bob Fosse and Mother Theresa.

What is it that you most dislike?

Persons who are negative.

What is your motto?

“Dreams are within your reach” and “Always have a positive attitude towards life”.
