Malta Independent Monday, 23 February 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Two people were arrested over Carnival weekend in Paceville after Drug Squad operations uncovered separate instances of ecstasy and cocaine trafficking.

The first arrest was made on Friday after officers saw a man acting suspiciously when leaving a nightclub and decided to search him. He was found to have a number of ecstasy pills and sachets of cocaine on his person. The man, 27, from Valletta, was escorted home by the police and his residence was searched, resulting in the discovery of more pills.

Meanwhile, a taxi driver was arrested after officers saw him throw a number of sachets away when he got spooked. The 35-year-old from Birkirkara was arrested on suspicion of cocaine trafficking. Both men are still in police custody and are expected to be charged in court in the coming days. Duty Magistrate Miriam Hayman ordered on-site inquiries.
