Malta Independent Sunday, 11 October 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The St Michael Foundation was recently approved as an accredited centre for the Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX) of the United Kingdom, and is currently offering the ILEX Level 2 Certificate Course for Legal Secretaries.

ILEX is the governing membership body for legal executives and plays a unique and important role in the legal sector. ILEX works closely with the government and is recognised and listed by the UK’s Ministry of Justice as a main branch of the legal profession.

This course, which has been modified for Malta, covers intensive topics related to legal word processing, working in the legal environment, principles of liability and a choice from one of the following: principles of criminal law, principles of debt recovery, law in the workplace, personal injury procedures, consumer rights, family law, probate practice and administration and conveyance.

The 60-hour course is held in two-and-a-half-hour evening sessions, twice weekly. The training facilities are the very latest, using innovative e-learning technologies such as a virtual learning environment (VLE), where students can follow the course notes on-line, electronic interactive whiteboards and modern computer laboratories.

The course is ideally suited for the beginner who would like to start a career in a legal environment, as well as those who would like to formalise their experience by means of a qualification. This qualification is accredited and included on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) of the United Kingdom.

More information about the course is available by downloading the information pack to be found on the website http://www.stmeduc.org
