Court: Malaysian Condemned 15-year jail term and fined €70,000

Noor Faizura Azura Binti Md Lias, 31 and from Malaysia admitted importing drugs to Malta.

The case goes back to March 2008 when she was arrested at the Malta International Airport. On arrival on a flight from Milan via Madrid the accused was detained and searched. She was found to be wearing a corset around her waist containing a substance suspected to be illegal. Forensic investigations proved that she carried the substance cocaine of market value of between E60,804 and E106,057.60.

It transpired that she had started trafficking cocaine to Malta in the preceding months and was conscious of doing so. She was paid thousands in Euros for doing so. The Malaysian rendered herself guilty of conspiracy to drug trafficking. Lawyer Lara Lanfranco from the Attorney General’s office prosecuted.
