Malta Independent Tuesday, 3 November 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

A man was yesterday held responsible for an incident dating back six years, which left a man with a permanent disability.

Victor Portelli was ordered to pay Godfrey Schembri a total of €4,210.71. He was held responsible for voluntarily running over Mr Schembri one evening in 2003.

Mr Schembri was walking along the Senglea promenade with a colleague, Alfred Fiteni, with whom Mr Portelli had had an argument over his pet dog.

The court was told that Mr Portelli, in his Range Rover, drove onto the pavement where they were walking, got out of the vehicle and started hitting Mr Fiteni with an iron rod. Mr Schembri had fractured a leg, which was crushed underneath one of the wheels of the Range Rover.
