A fruit and vegetable vendor, his son and a warden were charged in court over a fight near the Ta’ Qali vegetable market. The father and son were leaving the market at around 9.40am on Monday when they were stopped by the warden as their truck was overloaded. An argument ensued and the three persons suffered minor injuries. However it is yet unclear who started the fight that ensued.

Tarcisio Bongailas, 48 of Zabbar and his son Justin Bongailas, 23, were charged with causing the warden slight injuries and resisting a public official while on duty.

The warden, Carlo Micallef, 25, of Msida was charged with failing to observe his duty as a public official who was bound to prevent the same crime.

He also caused the two men slight injuries. The three men were granted bail against a personal guarantee of e500 each. Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna presided over the court. Police inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted. Lawyers Michael Sciriha and Richard Sladden appeared for the fruit and vegetable vendors while Dr Gavin Gulia represented the warden.
