Malta Independent Wednesday, 25 August 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

A man was given a six-month suspended jail term for a year after pleading guilty to punching a local warden in the face, causing him slight injuries.

The incident took place shortly before 2pm in St Paul’s Road, Naxxar, when Philip Zahra, 38, of Naxxar attacked warden Stephen Grech. He broke his glasses and slightly injured him.

Zahra was also found guilty of threatening and insulting the warden and using obscene language. He admitted to the crime at an early stage, apologised to the warden and was to pay the damages caused by yesterday evening. Magistrate Anthony Vella presided over the court. Police inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted while legal aid Mark Busuttil appeared for Zahra.
