Naxxar L 1

St Andrew’s 4

St Andrew’s returned to winning ways beating Naxxar Lions thanks to an impressive first half performance. The Saints built a three-goal lead in the first half, and then controlled with relative ease for the remaining minutes to grab three points that consolidates their healthy fifth place in the standings.

On 15 minutes St Andrew’s took the lead when from a Nicky Vella Petroni corner, the Naxxar defence failed to clear the ball and Valdo Alhinho Concalves shot home from close range.

Four minutes later the Saints doubled the score in similar fashion following another corner action. This time Concalves crossed from the corner flag, and yet again the Naxxar defensive set up left much to be desired, and William Camilleri was on hand to hammer the ball home.

Half way through the first half Naxar went out of their defensive shell and went close on a couple of occasions through Belia and Agboebina. The Lions went very close on 36 minutes, when Darren Falzon did the running for Rocha Da Silva whose effort missed the target by a whisker.

Eight minutes from time St Andrew’s scored a third goal when veteran defender Brain Said headed home an inch perfect cross from the hard working Vella Petroni.

In the second period St Andrew’s were not that impressive but still held the upper hand for long stretches. On 65 minutes substitute Michael Calleja fired home the fourth goal following another good move by Concalves.

The Saints went close a fifth goal when the best player on the field Aldinho Concalves hit the crossbar.

The Lions scored a consolation goal eleven minutes from tim when Hallison Da Lima Sequeira slotted the ball home following a melee in front of the St Andrew’s goalkeeper.
