Sliema McDonalds came out winners of the BOV Waterpolo Winter League in a nail biting encounter which ended 9-8 with Neptunes making a game of it in the final session after having trailed for all the encounter.

Sliema started like a house on fire and roared to a 4-0 lead in the first session courtesy of Lubrano (2), Soler and Michael Spiteri Staines with Neptunes clawing one back in the final seconds of the session through Lanzon.

Sliema also initially dominated the second session going 4-1 up at one stage but Neptunes managed to make it 4-3 at the change of ends. The Blues relied on Soler and Privitera for their goals while Aquilina and Lanzon scored for the Reds.

The third session was a hotly contested affair ending 1-1 with Sliema maintaining their four goal lead for the final session. The final session saw Neptunes come back strongly winning 3-0 but the Reds wasted a number of good opportunities with Sliema ending up 9-8 winners.
