A man and a teenage girl died at Mater Dei Hospital in mysterious circumstances in two separate incidents.

Both the girl and the man died after being admitted to hospital suffering from cardio-respiratory failure, autopsies revealed. However, these were inconclusive and further examinations are necessary.

The police were informed about the two cases following the deaths.

In the first case, a 14-year-old girl from St Paul’s Bay, Shanice Muscat, was admitted to hospital late on Friday afternoon. Reports said the police were working on the theory that she could have inhaled lighter fluid.

Meanwhile, at around 8pm, the police were informed of the man’s death shortly after he was taken to hospital.

The man, a Paola resident, was in a house at Corradino Street, Paola, when medical assistance was requested.

Duty magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona was informed of both cases and appointed several experts to assist in his inquiries.

Further police investigations are underway.
