Parliamentary Secretary for Competitiveness and Economic Growth Edward Zammit Lewis said that the choice of Malta as the location to hold this conference certainly befits the role that Malta’s financial services sector has had over the past years thanks to the country’s national policy that has bipartisanship support in the local political arena.

Speaking during the International MSI EMEA Regional Conference, he said that “it is the government’s commitment to protect and sustain the financial services sector; the present administration is bound by its electoral manifesto to oppose any tax-harmonisation measures which may harm Malta’s competitiveness on a regional and international level.
“The new administration is committed to being at the forefront of the gaming industry and therefore we will be launching a new set of regulations to enhance, update and modernise our framework.

“Coupled with the launch of the Responsible Gaming Foundation, we will ensure that gaming on Maltese licensed operations are fair and transparent to industry players.

“We will remain on the forefront of ensuring that crime, corruption and money laundering is prevented.
“At a time when the global markets are still recovering from the financial crisis, Malta wants to send out a message that with regulatory integrity, that through the government’s commitment and the extensive and determined effort of local stakeholders of these industries, Malta has managed to be successful.

“We remain confident that Malta will continue to remain the jurisdiction of choice for many investors for its business-friendly approach and its economic and financial stability, which are the foundation on which these industries were built in the first place,” he said.
