Police Inspector Angelo Gafa has been appointed to the Security Services branch.
Mr Gafa joined the force through the Graduate Recruitment Scheme and formed part of the Economic Crimes Unit for nine years, dealing with many sensitive cases involving high-profile individuals, having also investigated the oil procurement scandal.
He will join his former head, Michael Cassar, who was assigned chief of the Security Services recently.
