The General Workers’ Union metal and construction division has concluded talks related to the new collective agreement for Swan Laundry employees.

The GWU said in a statement that despite the difficulties encountered in the industry, the company still invested in its infrastructure and new equipment to better its services to enhance competitiveness.

“There’s a collective continuous effort between the employees and the company’s management so that Swan Laundry maintains its leading position in the laundry sector,” the GWU said.

The new agreement calls for a new salary system to be introduced which will lead to employees who were earning poor wages benefitting from the system, while the company assured the union that bonuses will also be awarded to employees.

Managing director Joe Mifsud, Francesca Scicluna, human resources manager, and Raymond Gauci, operations and technical manager spoke on behalf of Swan Laundry while Paul Bugeja, GWU's metal and construction secretary, and Charles Debattista, shop steward, represented the union.
