Poland to resettle 50 migrants from Malta

Malta Independent Thursday, 1 August 2013, 16:40 Last update: about 11 years ago

A parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Anglu Farrugia yesterday met Henryka Moscicka-Dendys, under secretary in the Polish foreign ministry, with Dr Farrugia thanking the Polish Prime Minister for Poland’s help in the irregular migration issue.

Poland will be taking up to 50 refugees from Malta by the end of the year.

The meeting also discussed the troubling situation in countries south of Malta, and Poland’s problems in operating its neighbourhood policy with countries in the east. Dr Farrugia and Ms Moscicka-Dendys agreed that these were subjects which should interest all countries in Europe  so there should be more interparliamentary dialogue to share experiences.

The two sides also discussed the teaching of English as a foreign language.

Dr Farrugia is accompanied by MPs Chris Agius and Claudette Buttigieg.
